这一段是伦敦首演的“独家段落”。与In My Life、A Heart Full of Love组成Love Montage——爱的蒙太奇。私意以为,无论是音乐还是歌词,这都是关于Cosette的最美丽的段落,当得起小说里对珂赛特的所有赞美。

小提琴而不是长笛,Cosette已经不是战栗的百灵鸟。Cosette的青春醒来了,就像十四岁的Juliette。人海茫茫之间,那偶然的一瞥,并不仅仅是让她们发现命中的爱人,而是让她们发现她们自己的青春美丽,然后,迷失在爱情里。

一见钟情的人儿是多么相似:对方一样地像幻影一般消失,自己一样地觉得一切似梦疑真,那偶然的一瞥,都一样地刻骨铭心,有如命定。

但相比起来,Marius更像是爱情的俘虏,红与黑变幻之间,是希望与绝望在交错。但Cosette柔婉的诉说之下,是欣悦和期盼,她相信那惊鸿一瞥是真实的,她相信那仅有的一次见面会有将来。在爱情面前,女性似乎更加勇敢而坚决——就像在小说中,在那个春天的花园里,珂赛特站起来,走过马吕斯身边,马吕斯手足无措。

可惜在后来的版本里,它无缘无故地就消失了,——I heard it once. Then it was gone.

但Once will do,所以,我要把它留下来。
