Peter Cousens是澳大利亚的著名演员，可以说得上是一位多面手，他以演电视节目成名，同时活跃于戏剧、音乐剧和歌剧舞台，演出包括《悲惨世界》、《西贡小 姐》、《西城故事》、《剧院魅影》、《理发师陶德》、《伙伴们》等著名作品，除澳大利亚本土演出之外，还在伦敦西区演出过《剧院魅影》中的 Phantom。他6次获得毛氏奖的提名，担任过毛氏奖的主持，但迄今仍没有获过奖。近年来参加了一系列的演唱会，也录制了不少专辑。

除演出之外，他还与Tony Sheldon合作，将他个人的音乐与职业生涯写成了一部独角戏A Life On Earth，由他自己出演，这部戏融合了诗歌、音乐与戏剧元素，而且充满幽默风趣，受到评论界的好评，并在2001年在东部各州巡演。

近年来，Peter Cousens致力于教学和推动澳大利亚本地的音乐剧发展。2003年他在Wollongong大学担任客座教授，期间与3年级学生制作、导演了一出叫 Migratory V的戏，此后，他还在The Brent St School of Performing Arts任教。2006年，为推动澳大利亚本土音乐剧发展，他创立了Kookaburra国家音乐剧团，并担任艺术总监。这个剧团是非牟利性质的，主要目 的是要提升音乐剧在澳大利亚文化界的地位，让澳大利亚的本土演员、本土制作能有更多的发展，以至走向世界。

Peter Cousens拥有澳大利亚国家戏剧艺术研究院（National Institute of Dramatic Art）的戏剧艺术学位。

Peter Cousens同时也是澳大利亚防止虐待及疏忽照顾儿童协会（National Association for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect）的赞助人。
